Artist statement, c.2001Artwork is very important for me. I use traditional ochres on canvas, paper, barks, tunga bags and ironwood sculptures. The tool I use for painting is a traditional wooden comb made from ironwood or bloodwood timber; sometimes I use a brush. The images I paint are from pukumani body designs used in ceremonies, and I use the same timbers that are used to make pukumani poles for Tiwi mortuary ceremonies.
